ACG at the 8th Sustainability Summit for SE Europe & the Mediterranean

In October, we proudly participated in the 8th Sustainability Summit for SE Europe & the Mediterranean, organized by The Economist. Bringing together experts, corporate leaders, and policymakers, this prestigious event centered around “Sustainability and the Workplace.”

Rania Assariotaki, Director of the Office of Sustainability-Public Affairs, joined esteemed experts on the panel “The Fight for Sustainability: Where Are We Heading?” to explore the role of higher education in advancing sustainability.

She highlighted that higher education institutions (HEIs) serve as pivotal drivers of change. Reflecting on ACG’s 150-year legacy and commitment to serving the community, she reaffirmed our dedication to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education. Ms. Assariotaki emphasized that ACG aims to prepare students not only with the academic knowledge but with the values and leadership skills needed to build a sustainable future.

Acknowledging the current turbulent landscape, including the upcoming US elections and the lack of green leadership on a global level, she noted that “HEIs must stay consistent in advancing the sustainability agenda, regardless of political shifts. Sustainability is everybody’s business, and the future of all living beings depends on our collective leadership.”

Exploring an equally compelling topic, Professor Pavlos Vlachos, Alba Graduate Business School, joined fellow experts in a panel discussion on “Sustainability and the Workplace.”

He discussed the effectiveness of humble leadership and fostering a culture of humility to reduce workplace stressors, noting that humility is a strength, not a liability. He added that one of the most impactful ways to build such a culture is by hiring more women.

At ACG, we aim not only to equip students with the academic knowledge they need to thrive professionally but to instill values that shape them into conscious, responsible, and empathetic citizens.
