ACG Leads the Charge in Sustainability with New Photovoltaic Installations

The American College of Greece (ACG), a leader in providing high-quality education, and sustainability, and known for its community contribution initiatives, reinforces its steadfast commitment to sustainability with the installation of photovoltaic systems at its buildings in Aghia Paraskevi and Spata (East Campus). By harnessing solar energy, the College aims to reduce its carbon footprint, minimize operational costs, and enhance energy efficiency.

This significant initiative not only exemplifies ACG’s dedication to environmental stewardship but also serves as a model for other educational institutions. By transitioning to renewable energy sources, ACG is actively participating in the global effort to combat climate change and promote sustainable practices. The photovoltaic systems are expected to significantly decrease the College’s reliance on conventional energy sources, leading to substantial long-term savings and a reduced environmental impact. Through these efforts, ACG demonstrates its leadership in the push towards a greener future, inspiring both the campus community and the wider society to embrace sustainable practices.

Sustainability at ACG

In addition to its advancements in renewable energy, ACG has been recognized as a top performer in the 2024 Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for the ninth consecutive year. This prestigious recognition, which stems from the data in the College’s 2023 AASHE STARS report, highlights ACG’s achievements in key sustainability areas, showcasing its innovative approaches and successful initiatives that engage the entire campus community in sustainability efforts.

ACG is the only academic institution in Greece to have received a distinction from the US Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for its STARS report. In June 2023, ACG achieved the STARS® Gold Rating for the second time for its fourth sustainability report and assessment, in recognition of our sustainability achievements. The reporting process has been driven and coordinated by the Office of Sustainability – Public Affairs.

Moreover, ACG has achieved notable rankings in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking, being recognized as the most sustainable private educational institution in Greece. ACG ranked 4th among 18 institutions in both the public and private sectors, reflecting its ongoing commitment to sustainable practices.

These accolades reaffirm ACG’s dedication to integrating sustainability into all facets of campus life, setting a benchmark for educational institutions globally. By prioritizing sustainability, ACG not only enhances its operational practices but also ensures that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead in a sustainable world.
