A 10 week, 30-hour Hybrid Online course
This innovative course consists of 30 hours of instructional time in total, of which:
- 10 hours (1 hour per week) are completed asynchronously;
- 20 hours (2 hours per week) are delivered live online via Zoom every Thursday, 18:00 – 20:00.

Overview
English for Hospitality Hybrid Online is a targeted English language and professional skills course to equip you with the specialized language and skills you need to communicate effectively in the hospitality industry, where English is essential. The core language skills are developed through a wide range of communicative tasks which give you the opportunity to build confidence and improve fluency.

Unique Course Features
English for Hospitality Hybrid Online has been designed with busy hospitality professionals in mind. It is a practical course which will allow you to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, while also improving your hospitality vocabulary and grammar.
You will learn the English you need to do the job, practice functional language in real work situations and enrich your hotel and catering vocabulary.
A flipped learning model has been adopted so that multiple opportunities for active engagement are created during live online lessons.
The one hour per week pre-class asynchronous online component will lay the foundation for the live online meeting and is meant to provide some flexibility because you’ll be able to control the pace of your learning. These pre-class activities have been designed using the latest adult learning methodology and modern authoring tools to engage adult learners with interactive activities. Each live session includes role plays, pair-work and individual tasks. All materials are provided.

- Deal with telephone communication issues
- Take room reservations by phone
- Confirm a reservation in writing
- Greet and welcome guests
- Provide information about hotel facilities

- Take restaurant / bar reservation by phone
- Seat guests
- Explain dishes and drinks
- Take food and beverage orders
- Give tourist information and recommend local eateries
- Direct guests to facilities near the hotel

- Evaluate cultural differences to enhance communication
- Perform confidently in a job interview
Live online component additional information
The Facilitator delivers the training live, using the Zoom platform, instead of physically being in class, but your experience will be just like being in a brick-and-mortar classroom. You will interact with your peers and have an engaging and enjoyable learning journey while improving your English skills and expanding your vocabulary.

- a laptop or a desktop computer (handheld devices lack certain functionalities so are unsuitable)
- a broadband speed wired Internet connection
- earphones or a headset
- a microphone (standalone or built into the earphones or headset)
- a webcam
- Zoom (it is free and will be downloaded onto your computer as soon as you click on the link you will receive from us).
Once you are online, you, your Trainer and your co-Trainees will be able to hear, see and chat to each other. Your Trainer will be able to share her screen, write on a whiteboard and put you into online groups for collaborative work.
Common European Framework of Reference
To fully benefit from the course, it is recommended that you are an independent user of English and are approximately at B1+ level in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).
Certificate of Participation
In order to be awarded the Certificate of Participation from the Deree – School of Graduate and Professional Education, you will need to attend 7 live online sessions and complete 7 online tasks.

Meet our Dedicated Trainer
Lia Kalianos, DELTA MA CertIBET PM2
Lia is a bilingual DELTA-qualified Business English and English for Specific Purposes Trainer in the School of Graduate and Professional Education at Deree-The American College of Greece. She has been an adult educator for over 20 years and has valuable and extensive experience of designing bespoke student-centred learning experiences for adult learners. She facilitates bespoke open group and in-company Business English and English for Specific Purposes training (face-to-face, blended, hybrid and online). She specializes in English for International Business Communication, English for the Energy Transition and English for Hospitality.
Lia was a Cambridge examiner for many years and co-developed materials for the British Council while working there. She has served as Coordinator of the TESOL Greece Adult Learners Special Interest Group and currently serves on the Board of TESOL Greece, a non-profit professional association for teachers of English as a foreign language.
Committed to life-long learning, Lia holds a Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (Cambridge DELTA) and is certified in International Business English Training, academic management, intercultural training and project management.
Lia spent 20 years in the UK and France. While living in the UK, she earned a BA (Hons) in French and an MA in Linguistics from University College London (UCL), The University of London.
