The ACG Office of Public Affairs and Institute of Global Affairs are hosting a discussion on the outcome of the 2024 US elections, highlighting their global geopolitical and economic impact. A panel of experts will offer an analysis and valuable insights on the results and how these may shape future US-Greece relations and the overall US strategy in the broader Southeast Mediterranean region.

Nikos Dendias, Minister of National Defence
Nikolaos Dendias was born in Corfu and hails from Paxi. He is a graduate of the Athens College and of the Athens University Law School (with honors). He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of London, specializing in Maritime and Insurance Law (University College – UCL) and Criminology (London School of Economics – LSE).
He is a Supreme Court Lawyer.
Nikolaos Dendias was first elected Member of Parliament in 2004 and has been re-elected ever since. He has served as Minister of Justice (2009), Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection (2012-2014), Minister of Development and Competitiveness (2014), Minister of National Defense (2014-2015) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (2019-2023). In June 2023 he was reappointed Minister of National Defense.
He is married to Dafni Lala and has three children.
Constantinos Filis, Director, ACG Institute of Global Affairs and Professor of International Relations
Dr. Filis is President of the Foundation of Thracian Art and Tradition, Director of the Institute of International Affairs, Associate Professor at The American College of Greece, Director of the International Olympic Truce Centre and research fellow at the Foreign Policy Planning Centre of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Institute of International Relations, Panteion University; the Board of Directors of the International Olympic Academy; and the Sportsmanship, Ethics and Deontology Committee. He served as Executive Director of the Institute of International Relations, Panteion University, and as Director of Research Programmes at the same institute.
Dr. Filis was elected Senior Associate Member (SAM) at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford (2007-2009), and in tandem was a Member of the International Council of the Research Institute for European and American Studies. He was also a researcher at the Center for South East European Studies at Oxford (SEESOX), University of Oxford (2008-2010).
He lectures at the Diplomatic Academy, the Naval Academy, the National Defence Academy and the National Security Academy. He has published extensively, including books, papers and studies. Most recently:

Alexandros Costopoulos is a communications strategist, renowned speaker and seasoned contributor to leading international and Greek media on communications, credibility, soft skills and U.S. relations.
Founder and CEO of FORESIGHT, Alex has collaborated with distinguished individuals and prominent private and public organizations from the political, academic and business spheres in the United States, Greece and the broader southeast European region, providing critical insight and developing bespoke results driven strategies and tactics related to public affairs, reputation management, public diplomacy and American affairs.
He is the Secretary General and elected member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the AMERICAN‐HELLENIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, Director for Greece of American Citizens Abroad and Co‐founder of the Institute for Regional Dialogue and Strategy. He has written various social and political opinion editorials for top newspapers and magazines in Greece and has spoken extensively on the importance of transatlantic cooperation and smart power, while he published two books, “Bridges of Cooperation‐Marshall Plan and Greece” in 2008 and “Bridges of Liberty‐ American Philhellenism in the 18th and 19th Centuries” in 2009.
In 2011 he founded RepowerGreece in the United States, an international grassroots public diplomacy initiative that seeks to empower a new way of thinking in facing emerging challenges and redefine Greece by investing in a renewed entrepreneurship and talent based movement. He has been repeatedly invited to participate as mentor or judge in leading entrepreneurship empowerment programs and as a speaker in esteemed academic institutions including Harvard, NYU, Georgetown, the Athens Economic University, the Metsoveio National Technical University of Athens and The American College of Greece.
Nikos Vettas, Director General, Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (ΙΟΒΕ) and Professor,
Athens University of Economics and Business
Nikos Vettas is the General Director of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE) since 2013 and Professor of Economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) since 2003, where he has also served as the Chairman of the Economics Department and a member of the University Council. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, USA, and has been an Associate Professor at Duke University, USA, and a visiting Professor at INSEAD in France and Singapore. He serves as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Industrial Organization, a Research Fellow at CEPR, UK, and a member of the Executive Committee of the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics. He has served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association and the Journal of Industrial Economics, a member of the Hellenic Competition Commission and the Economic Advisory Group for Competition Policy at the European Commission. He is a co-organizer of the annual Conference for Research on Economic Theory and Econometrics, since 2002. His research has been published in leading journals such as the International Economic Review, European Economic Review, Rand Journal of Economics, and the Review of Economic Studies. Co-editor of Beyond Austerity: Reforming the Greek Economy (MIT Press, 2017). Vice-Chairman of the Growth Plan Committee of the Hellenic Republic for the Greek Economy, 2020.

Niki Lymperaki is a journalist in Athens, Greece. For the past twenty years she has worked on international news and current affairs for major Greek media as an anchor, reporter and radio producer. In 2020 she was awarded with the highest distinction for journalists in Greece, the Botsis Foundation Award. She holds a degree in Law from the University of Athens and she speaks English, Italian, Spanish and German.
