Bio
Vassilis Kontogiannopoulos was born in Amaliada in 1942. He is a graduate of Varvakios School and the School of Law of the University of Athens. He received his Masters in International Commercial Law and European Studies from Sorbonne University.
In 1974 he was elected MP with New Democracy in the Elis Prefecture and continuously served as such until 1996. In 1998 he was expelled from New Democracy and in 2000 he was elected MP with PASOK in the B’ Athens prefecture.
He served as Deputy Minister and Minister of Education in the Cabinets of K. Karamanlis, G. Rallis, Tzanis Tzannetakis, X. Zolotas and K. Mitsotakis. He also served as Minister of Industry, Energy and Trade in the K. Mitsotakis Cabinet and as Deputy Minister of Health in the K. Simitis Cabinet.
He has written books on Educational Politics and Politics in general. He is married and the father of one daughter.
