Program Overview

Globalization and digitalization have turned English into a world language and English teaching to an attractive career option. The MA in TESOL provides students with up-to-date knowledge and skills for a professional career in the English Language Teaching field. This is a unique program, suitable for students with different levels of professional teaching experience, which embeds two prestigious international qualifications: an MA in TESOL and the Trinity College London CertTESOL, which allows you to travel and teach all over the world.

  • Duration: One year (full-time) or up to three years (part-time).
  • Number of Courses: 12 courses (36 US credits).
  • Attendance: The MA TESOL is taught using a blended approach: a mixture of face-to-face classes and online study, making it ideal for working professionals. Classes for the in-class sessions run on every second Saturday from 10:00-13:00 and/or 14:00-17:00. Online activity will be ongoing throughout the courses and will involve collaboration with other participants, as well as individual work, all under the supervision of experienced instructors. The program may be completed in one calendar year (full-time) or up to three years (part-time).

Upon successful completion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the teaching and associated skills required to perform as a TESOL professional;
  • Explain the key concepts and theories underpinning TESOL and current professional issues in the field;
  • Describe English as a linguistic system and relate it to language skills development and approaches to teaching and learning;
  • Identify and appraise how educational technologies and digital media can be utilized in TESOL;
  • Design and implement research initiatives in TESOL using appropriate methods and methodologies.

Admission Requirements

The minimum graduate admission requirements are:

1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with an average grade of B or better. 

2. Evidence of strong motivation to undertake graduate-level study in TESOL to be determined by the interview and the personal statement submitted with the application form.

3. Proficiency in the English language evidenced through one of the following: TOEFL, IELTS, or Proficiency. DEREE College graduates and graduates from other accredited English-speaking institutions are not required to submit evidence of Proficiency in the English language.

Credit Transfer:
Applicants holding the Trinity DipTESOL or Cambridge DELTA may be eligible for credit transfer for Methodology & Pedagogy (3 US credits), Teaching Skills (3 US credits) and Language Awareness (3 US credits) – 9 US credits transfer in total.

Note: The MA in TESOL program is not eligible for Title IV federal aid.
