Not to be missed!
There are at least three reasons to be at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall on June 26: Το enjoy the performance of a talented musician, to share his vision of bringing classical music to the most remote areas of our planet, and to support the charity "Keys of Change" and the ACG Scholarship Fund. Panos Karan (PIERCE '00) is not only an outstanding pianist with three solo recitals at Carnegie Hall among others, but also a visionary who deeply believes that everyone is entitled to the gift of music. Panos founded "Keys of Change" to bring music to people all over the world. On June 26, we will have the opportunity to see images
|
and hear stories from his musical travels around the globe and, of course, enjoy the recital: The first part of the program will consist of the Bach/Liszt Prelude and Fugue in A minor followed by the Liszt Sonata in B minor. In the second part Panos will join forces with flautist Zach Tarpagos who has also travelled with "Keys of Change" to Japan. Ticket sales start on May 17 and you can book your seat via the Athens Megaron box office and website.

The ACG Bike-A-Thon ended with a surge of warm school spirit when ACG alumnus Dimitris Politis (DEREE ’90) rode his bike onto campus on April 11. ACG students accompanied Dimitris up Agiou Ioannou Street on the last leg of his six-day 800-klm ride through all kinds of terrain and weather conditions (it rained heavily most days) from Thessaloniki through Ioannina and Patras to our beautiful campus. Dimitris took a week off from his family and banking position in Switzerland and paid all expenses for this Bike-A-Thon out of his own pocket in order to help raise money for scholarships for ACG students at a time when demand for financial aid is skyrocketing due to the deep crisis afflicting Greece. His remarkable effort was recognized and rewarded: by April 23 the Bike-A-Thon had raised 15,000 Euros and contributions are still being made (click HERE to make yours). Mini Loves Art
Designed by our student Sophia Iliana Georgiadi, the DEREE Mini Art Car made quite an impression at the “notnormalopening” of the new autoshop on 438 Mesogion Avenue, which is the only auto display in Greece exclusively devoted to Mini. After Ms Georgiadi’s design received the most “likes” on Facebook, it was applied on an actual Mini. The result was impressive! |
A Beautiful Tradition
Alumnae from the ‘50s and ‘60s look back at PIERCE Bazaar as one of their fondest school memories and this year we were very happy to see it revived thanks to the initiative and hard work of a group of dedicated members of PIERCE class of 1958. The Bazaar, which was once again held on PIERCE campus coinciding with the annual PIERCE student Open House, raised 5.000 Euros in support of ACG’s Scholarship Fund and opened the way for the reestablishment of a fine tradition.

Repower Greece
How often do high school students have the chance to meet foreign ambassadors, ask them pointed questions and have a frank and open-minded discussion? If they study at PIERCE, opportunities such as this arise much more often than one might imagine! Such was the case with the event PIERCE co-organized with the international public diplomacy campaign REPOWER Greece led by DEREE alumnus Alexandros Costopoulos: |
A group of six high school students discussed with the Ambassadors of Germany and Austria and Giannos Gramatidis, the President of the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce, the challenges faced by Greece, Germany and the Eurozone. The discussion, which took place at PIERCE Theater last month, was moderated by journalist Sophia Papaioannou, also a DEREE alumna. |
On Stage
Over 600 theater lovers enjoyed the four performances of “Perceptions” given at the Black Box Theater in April by the Theater Arts Department. The play is based on texts by Carol Churchill, Sarah Kane, and Tom Jones as well as on texts which developed during rehearsals. |
